How on Earth can you tell when enough excess is just about enough. Apparently you can’t. As long as people are willing to buy your luxury products at the price you name, it’s just not enough.
Yet another Bugatti has been approved for production for the obscenely rich among us, and this time it’s a sports saloon rather than an all out 1,001 bhp super sports car. Named after one of its legendary ancestors, the Galibier, the new Galibier 16C will, as Bugatti firmly believes earn the title of the world’s fastest sedan.
The Galibier 16C will share it’s powerplant with the Veyron’s massive 8.0 litre 16 cylinder unit, although it is epected to be detuned somewhat for it’s duty in the Galibier. After all, you wouldn’t want your chauffeur playing around with 1,001 bhp while you try to quietly read the Herald Tribune in the first class back seat accommodation. Despite this, the Galibier 16C is still expected to reach a top speed of around 360 km/h and will be fitted with an all new 8 speed automatic transmission in place of the Veyron’s DSG.
For some reason, the exterior and interior of this car looks like they were designed with two complete different philosophies in mind. On the outside, make it as outrageous, attention grabbing and aggressive as you can without being overtly vulgar, while on the inside, nothing but pure class, minimalism and elegance is the order of the day. The beautiful flowing lines, chromes guauges (which include a Swiss-made Parmigiani watch that can be removed and strapped to your wrist by the way) and nothing but the latest technology find their way into the car. While Bugatti has revealed very little information, you can expect several flat-screen LCD displays, an in-built hard-drive, a superb sound system and nothing but the most sumptuous of materials.
Rumours abound that the Galibier 16C will make its debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show. As for the price tag, at least that is one detail that we’ve heard is most probably fact not speculation, a cool $1.4 million. |
